What to do with

RECORDS

Records

Vinyl records are not accepted in your household recycling scheme, or at your local recycling centre. However, if they’re still in good condition, a charity shop might take them or you might be able to sell them.

Made from PVC, vinyl records can be ‘re-purposed’ into new stylish ornaments, wall art or tableware.

Get selling and make some money…

  • Before you get rid of your records, do some research to see any of them are rare or collector items – they might raise be worth more than you anticipated...think!
  • Search online for specialist buyers – there are still some companies that are interested in buying your old vinyl records including Cash4records,Vinyl Exchange and Vinyl Records;
  • Or sell them on websites like eBay and Gumtree.

Pass them on...

  • Ask family and friends if they would like them;
  • Go online to give them away at sites like Freecycle and Freegle;
  • Check locally - a community project near you may have a use for them;
  • Sell items locally at car boot sales, nearly new and bring and buy sales;
  • Advertise them in the local paper or on local noticeboards.

What else can I do with them?

  • Get creative – there are lots of videos on YouTube that show how you can make new items from your old record collection.

Disposing of them…

  • Vinyl records are not recyclable. They should be disposed of in the rubbish bin.
  • Cardboard sleeves can be removed and recycled.
