What to do with
POLYSTYRENE PACKAGING

Polystyrene is a type of plastic which is not commonly recycled.
Most people readily recognise expanded polystyrene which is sometimes used for take-away food containers and to package white goods like microwaves. Expanded polystyrene should be placed in the waste bin.
Polystyrene is also sometimes used for other food packaging like multi-pack yoghurts. Some local authorities accept it in recycling collections although it is unlikely to actually be recycled. You can check with your council if they accept it.
You can find out more about recycling labels and what they mean on our Packaging symbols explained page.
