Your food waste is recycled into energy to power your student living

It’s a good job more than 70% of students in Wales are recycling their food waste. High five to that!

When recycled, food waste is taken to a processing facility where it is turned into electricity. It’s good to know that all your used tea bags, egg shells, and fruit & veg peelings are helping to power your uni life...

Select the right answer to power it up!

Correct! It takes 12 teabags to fully charge a tablet!
Sorry! That's the wrong answer! Please try again!

From late night study sessions to late night parties, your recycled food waste could supply the electricity

Make some noise with your recycling! Your food waste can help power this weekend’s party… 40 used tea bags could generate enough energy to power a mixing console for 1 hour.

Power Your uni work

Got a 3000 word essay to finish off by the morning? Keep your energy levels topped up with bananas and let the peels do the hard work. 11 recycled banana peels could power a computer for an hour. Uni work has never been so a-peel-ing!

Power The latest blockbuster

Fruit and veg peelings, egg shells, bones, food scraps can all be recycled. Put them in your caddy and let them work their magic. 5 caddies full of food waste could power a cinema screen long enough to watch the whole of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

How can my recycled food waste generate electricity?

If you put your food waste in the rubbish bin it often ends up in landfill, where it rots and releases methane - a harmful greenhouse gas. Most councils in Wales send their food waste to an ‘Anaerobic Digestion’ processing facility - which captures the methane and turns it into energy.
