How can I recycle food waste?

Recycling your food waste is easy. All local authorities in Wales provide a free food waste collection service that collects every week.

All you need is a food waste kitchen caddy, bags/liners and a kerbside food waste caddy. If you don’t have these, contact your local council and they will provide kitchen and kerbside caddies for you free of charge, some authorities may charge for bags/liners or direct you to purchase them from approved vendors.

Once you’ve got your equipment, it’s easy:

1. Line your kitchen caddy with the bag provided or use the biodegradable bags your council recommends.

2. Every week empty all unwanted and unavoidable food into the caddy, taking care to exclude any packaging.

3. When your bag is full, transfer it to your kerbside food waste bin and put it out on collection day.
