What to do with

WHITE GOODS

White Goods

If you are replacing your fridge, freezer, cooker, washing machine or dishwasher there are several ways you can dispose of it. Take a look below at some of the options...

Where can I recycle? »

If you have an electrical item that is still in good working condition, consider the following options:

Pass them on...

Charity and re-use organisations;

  • Electrical items can be donated to some charity shops or furniture re-use organisations - many offer collection services;
  • Check to see if your council offers a service for re-use.

Online

  • Pass on items for free at places such as Freecycle and Freegle;
  • Or sell them on websites like eBay and Gumtree.

Friends, family and local events

  • Ask family and friends if they would like your unwanted electricals - it could be just what they are looking for;
  • Put an ad in your local newspaper or shop window.

If it is broken…

  • A simple repair could give an item a new lease of life and save you money too! Check online for guides to making simple repairs - or to check whether it might be easy and cheap for an expert to make the repair for you. For example, www.espares.co.uk and www.ifixit.com offer user guides to repairing white goods.

    Take them to your local household waste recycling centreor check to see if your council offers a household recycling collection for bulky electricals;
  • Often shops will collect your unwanted electricals when they deliver your new one - especially larger items like TV's, fridges and freezers (please note that some retailers may charge to collect electrical items) You can check where your nearest recycling centre is by using our locator tool.
